Some dogs can, but it is not reccomended. Most dogs cannot properly digest cows milk, and drinking it may result is diarrhea/vomitting. Remember that for animals, milk is food, not drink. If you do have a reason that you want to give your dog milk, it is suggested that you give goats milk.

Skim milk still has lactose. But it may be easier cause there is less fat.

I doubt that it would do anything worse than give your dog diarrhea - at which point you would know not to let your dog have any more milk. However, my dog drank milk daily for 12 years without any negative effect - he'd have my left-over granola in the morning that always came with a hefty helping of milk. He loved it and would slink over as soon as he heard the sound of spoon against bowl.

All three of my dogs get the trots from milk. I, too, have heard goat's milk is best, but I've never tried it.

Try not to feed a ton of dairy, I do feed it, but in VERY limited amounts.

We use to let our puppies eat/drink bread dipped into milk and they loved it.It was a way of weaning them from mom's milk and it worked real well. Then,at lunch and dinner,we would mix milk and kibble.
It was milk that came directly from the cows or goat.
We never had any ill-effect with the pups.

I occationally let Jake drink milk, because he'll be watching me drink some from a glass and will drool like a faucet. I haven't noticed any bowel problems from drinking it, but I don't know if dogs get the same benefits from milk that humans do, so I don't give him milk all the time. Just once in a while as a treat.
