Dog Care Tips (10 of 10) - Include your dog's signature on your holiday cards!

Include your dog’s signature on your holiday cards!

Start by preparing your ‘signing area’ by laying a plastic sheet on the floor. A quiet space with not too much activity will help your dog to feel calm and relaxed. Assemble the following supplies:

  • Holiday Cards
  • Non-toxic, water-based, washable paint
  • Disposable dinner plate
  • Paper Towels
  • A bucket of warm water
  • Dog shampoo
  • Treats

Next take your pooch for a vigorous walk or romp at the dog park. Exercise will work off any excess energy and hopefully leave your dog feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Wash your dogs signing paw with shampoo, rinse and towel dry. Make sure it is completely dry before signing. For a clean print, carefully trim the hair between the pads and around the edge of the paw.

Invite your dog into the signing area by sitting down in the signing area and allow your dog to familiarize himself with the area.

Pour approximately 2 teaspoons of paint on the plate. Tip the plate so that it spreads out in a thin layer. Lay paper towels next to the plate, and open the card next to the paper towels.

Get yourself on your dogs level and gently lift his paw (be careful not to lift too high or to the side) and press the paw into the paint, then onto the paper towel to remove excess paint, and then finally on to the card

After you’ve finished immediately clean off the signing paw with shampoo and warm water and towel dry. Offer your dog a treat. If at any time your dog becomes overwhelmed, stop immediately. Let your dog relax and start again.

Don’t forget to let the cards dry thoroughly before closing!
